Hello, former children. I trust most of you remember me and many of you might also recall that I am a writer. I want to catch you up on what I’ve written in recent years, and I also want to offer up my services to anyone who needs a seasoned, top-notch, almost-famous freelance writer with many years of experience writing feature stories, promotional copy, humor columns and academic treatises. All this and more is contained in my resume.

Let’s start with the academics. I completed a master’s degree in English at East Carolina University and, subsequently, an adaptation of my master’s thesis appeared in the 2002 issue of the North Carolina Literary Review, published by ECU’s English department. This seminal work (if I do say so myself) focused on Black Mountain College, a community of artists and poets that existed near Asheville, NC, circa 1933-1955. You'll find an excerpt of this article here.

I wrote for The Chapel Hill Herald for many years, some promotional copy for advertisers but also full-page feature stories for the news room. I interviewed artists, politicians, entrepreneurs, non-profits, horticulturists and colorful local characters too varied and numerous to include in this small section of cyberspace. What we have here is a representative sampling: Marlette's first novel, Cat owners put on the dog, Coffee roaster makes connection between birds, beans, and Gallery grows from a scrap of newsprint.

Most of my all-time favorite stuff, however, is more than ten years old, stemming from an early career as a sit-down comic for small publications, most significantly the Greenville Independent, a weekly alternative press tabloid. You may get a taste of my rapier-like wit in some of these clips: If they can freeze John Wayne, Sex and insects, Yard art examined, and Bovine flatulence.

Did I mention that I am also my own webmaster? And that I've been incredibly updated lately, especially the haircut?

I also have years of desktop publishing experience and an excellent digital camera. If you feel inclined to for your own writing, marketing, publishing and graphics needs, that would be... well, super.
